MINUTES - D.R.Y.L. Meeting hosted by Bristol YC & Neshaminy Harbor YC

January 6, 2009

 

OPENING: Meeting called to order @ 8:03pm. President Paul Jusino thanked Bristol YC and Neshaminy Harbor for hosting the meeting and introduced Doc Harry Borgersen who welcomed those in attendance and thanked everyone who helped prepare for the meeting. Doc also acknowledged Princess Sommer from Bristol YC.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: All present except 2nd Vice President and Treasurer.

ROLL CALL OF COMMITTEE HEADS/ORGANIZATIONS: All present except Cruise, NBF, NJ Legislation, Pageant, Picnic, Safe Boating, BVC and Shoreline Planning.

ROLL CALL OF CLUBS: 25 clubs present

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes were approved as published.

 

OFFICERS & COMMITTEE REPORTS

President: Juice welcomed those who came out despite the weather and thanked the delegates for re-electing him. He asked for any suggestions to improve the DRYL. Juice also welcomed the new chairpersons for Yearbook (Denise Leo) and for Picnic (Marie Housworth). Juice, Mary and Queen Siobhan attended the CBYCA Ball where Juice discussed the possibility of joint meetings of DRYL and CBYCA. Juice received a letter of thanks from the chairperson of the Lighted Boat Parade.

2nd Vice President: Butch Gricco – no report.

3rd Vice President: Steve Zielinski – no report.

Secretary: Rick Patton – Forms are available to update delegate information.

Audit & Budget: Bill Branchide – no report.

Banquet: Mary Jusino – February 28 at Cannstatters. 7pm – midnight. Tickets are available for $40 each. Dinner choices are stuffed flounder or prime rib; soda, beer and wine are included in the ticket price. Cash bar. There will be a dessert table set up. Contact Mary at 215-396-1021.

Cruise: Bob Grace – no report.

Donations – no requests.

Fleet Surgeon: Harry Borgersen – Flu shots were given at the meeting. Doc mentioned some of the added bonuses of receiving the flu shot.

Pageant: Toni Nespola – no report.

Picnic: no report – no report.

Public Affairs: Bill Garwood – no report.

Regatta: Fred Saunders – no report. Fred is the new commodore of West End YC.


Safe Boating: Frank Gilbert – no report.

Shoreline Planning: Joe Campbell – no report. Bill Garwood mentioned an article about boats that had problems with their life rafts and PFDs. Make it a point to check your life saving equipment.

Webmaster: Paul Jusino – Site gets updated twice a month or more if necessary.

Yearbook: Denise Leo – getting ready to start the new yearbook. Dates for deadlines will be strictly adhered to this year. Bill Garwood will be assisting Denise and they are looking for any additional help getting ads. Templates for club pages were distributed. E-mail a word document if only text needs to be changed. Ad prices will remain the same as last year.

Boater Voter: Joe Campbell – no report.

CBYCA: Bob Williams – no report.

National Boating Federation (NBF): Bob Williams – no report.

NJ Legislation: John Honer – no report.

Pennsylvania Boating Association - SE (PBA): Bill Garwood – next meeting January 21, 2009 at Wissinoming YC at 7pm. Bill Garwood attended a meeting with Bob Williams at the Seaport Museum concerning river access and the release of the Delaware River Trails map presented by PA Ecological Corp. The speaker was Dan Martin who also mentioned that there were 8 boating fatalities in PA in 2008.

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

·         Motion was made and passed to place a DRYL ad in Wissinoming YC’s 100th Anniversary Commemorative Book.

·         Follow up to suggestion to put together a DRYL day at Trenton Thunder ball park. Melanie Horahan from Bordentown YC is researching. More information to follow.

 

NEW BUSINESS

·         Two nominations were presented for club of the year. Voting was held. Winner will be announced at banquet.

·         Person of the year nominations will be done at the February meeting

·         Juice will be taking the Polar Plunge on January 31st at the Neshaminy State Park for the benefit of the Special Olympics. Juice is looking for other participants to join him or for donations to sponsor him. Motion was made for the DRYL to sponsor Juice for $50. Motion was passed.

FINANCIAL REPORTS

Checkbook opening balance $13,043.62. Mike Kovacs reported income of $46.00 while John Maloney reported disbursements of $467.51 resulting in a checkbook closing balance of $12,576.11. A motion was made, seconded and approved to pay the bills.

 

GOOD AND WELFARE

·         West End’s restaurant is open from Thursday through Sunday.

·         CPR course at Liberty Sailing at Philadelphia Marine Center on February 22, 2009. Contact Dr. Annie at drannieo@verizon.net.

·         Bordentown YC Atlantic City bus trip on February 8th - $30/pp or $50/couple.

·         Bordentown YC cigar night on February 12th - $30 gets you 3 cigars and a steak dinner

·         Boating Safety Course at Delaware River YC on February 21st. Details on website.

·         John Maloney thanked members of Bridesburg OC for their assistance to a stranded sailboater

·         50/50 won by Ron Smalls of Happy Hour YC - $46
